It has now been confirmed that Jimmy Page will perform at the first annual Show Of Peace Concert, a environmental awareness event, which is scheduled to take place on April 17th 2010. The concert, to take place on a special stage to be erected outside of Beijing’s Bird’s Nest is expected to be heard via television, radio and Internet broadcasts by more than two billion people around the world. It’s expected to be part of a year-long campaign to address the twin issues of world peace and environmental care.

Show of Peace Concert Venue

This 85,000 person venue as seen during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will play as the backdrop for this Global Television Special with the outside design really the icon.

Beijing National Stadium, also known as the National Stadium or colloquially as the Bird's Nest, is a stadium in Beijing, China. The stadium was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Located in the Olympic Green, the $423 million stadium is the world's largest steel structure. The design, which originated from the study of Chinese ceramics, implemented steel beams in order to hide supports for the retractable roof; giving the stadium the appearance of a "Bird's nest". The retractable roof was later removed from the design after inspiring the stadium's most recognizable aspect. Ground was broken in December 2003 and the stadium officially opened in June 2008.

The concert will mark the 30th anniversary of the cultural exchange agreement between the United States and China. It is billed as "a 'peace is green' awareness campaign designed to not only promote peace with each other but to promote peace with our planet." Music & television producer Rick Garson's Las Vegas-based ZZYX Entertainment company is producing the show. Garson's co-producers include Live 8 and Live Earth principal Greg Sills and artist manager Trudy Green. Other organizations involved in the concert include "the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy, the United Nations' Pathways of Peace and the Captain Planet Foundation."

Garson will also be establishing A Show Of Peace Foundation, whose board of directors will comprise of some of the top environmental and peace-building experts. The foundation will be distributing funds raised from the April 17th concert and other activities to organizations and initiatives. Garson stated that "the passion and attitude of the Chinese people and the potential of this country made me realize that this was the right place to stage an event, as we watch the transformation of Red China to 'Green' China right before our eyes."
